a massive snowstorm swept across North America on January 13th -16th 2024. at least 55 people have been reported dead from this storm. in Tennessee 4.5-8.5 inches of snow fell causing many business and schools closed for multiple days. middle Tennessee received an average of about 7 inches of snow. due tp freezing temps, some roads were not passable for over 7 days after the storm. on Thursday January 18th it was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit when I left my home in the morning. I hiked about 8.5 miles thru central Tennessee and took about 1100 photos. the roads were definitely extremely dangerous even on foot. later that day temperatures rose to about 39 degrees Fahrenheit, causing some of the snow to melt while the ground was still frozen. temperatures dropped below 0 that night causing extremely icy and dangerous conditions. businesses that were able to finally reopen had to close again, especially due to the lack of employees and customers able to make it out of their homes safely. on Monday January 22nd the temperatures finally rose to about 48 degrees Fahrenheit across middle Tennessee allowing roads to finally be passable, yet still hazardous. throughout that week many rainstorms swept across the south including middle Tennessee causing all of the snow to melt and flood some areas. photos from this weather event is currently available on my Facebook page and will be posted here shortly. please stay safe.
